This is Mathieu, who has just left to go back to Quebec with his friend, David. I was maybe going to go with them to Vancouver/Victoria/Seattle for a few days but they don't have time to go any more (especially as Quebec is in the opposite direction). So, it's only just August and people are already leaving. I guess I'd better start to plan my time here better, seeing as it suddenly seems so limited!
On Tuesday, it was Tonya and Gabriela's annual joint birthday barbeque at the Cascade Ponds, which was a pretty big event. Tonya was making potato salad days beforehand, and a whole load of people came along. We had a bocce ball set, Lindsay brought a kite (it was definitely windy enough), and Gabriela took her kayak out. It was a lot of fun...
And yesterday I worked, to clear time for this ghost roadtrip, and ended up helping Andrew with an elopement where even the parents didn't know that the couple were getting married. There were six people there, including us, to share a bottle of (alcohol removed) champagne and a 40-person wedding cake, on a small gravel beach. I got a really strong sense of deja-vu during it though.
We had ages to take portraits at the end, so it was relaxed and I got plenty of good stuff. Finishing at half five, I went home for a shower and was a bit late for pasta night - but there was almost nobody there. It was strange and I still can't work out why because the place is usually packed. Maybe it's because people have started to leave, to go back to uni.
I have a space for the next couple of days now, that I have unintentionally cleared. Maybe I will do something different. I was looking forward to a long journey, and I definitely want to visit Vancouver Island.
